Everything you need to know about CAT’s translation services
We created this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to make your experience simpler, clearer, and fully transparent.
Here you will find answers to the most common questions about delivery times, file formats, certified translations, and our overall process. Our goal is to bring clarity and confidence to every step, so you always feel safe when trusting your documents to CAT – Caroline Alves Translations.

1. What does “faithful formatting” mean in a translation?
It means the translated document will keep the same structure and organization as the original (titles, paragraphs, tables, sections), while not including graphic design or custom layout. The purpose is to make it easy to compare the original and its translation side-by-side.
2. What is the average delivery time?
Delivery time depends on page count and document complexity. On average, a document of 1 to 3 pages can be delivered within 3 business days.
For urgent requests, we offer reduced turnaround times upon consultation.
3. What is included in CAT’s certified translation?
Every certified translation includes:
– The translation itself;
– The translator’s certification statement, attesting to the accuracy of the document;
– The original document sent by the client; and
– One round of revision/correction, if needed.
4. Can I request adjustments after delivery?
Yes. If you need any corrections related to the original content, you may request them within 7 calendar days after delivery.
5. How will I receive my translation?
Translations are generally delivered in digital format.
Depending on the client’s needs, the final file may be sent in:
– PDF;
– DOCX;
– XLSX; or
– other formats upon request
For immigration documents, the standard delivery format is PDF, ensuring accuracy and security. If you require printed copies, we can guide you on how to proceed.
6. What is the difference between sworn and non-sworn translations?
A sworn translation can only be issued by state-certified public translators and is required in certain official processes.
A non-sworn translation, like the one provided by CAT, is accepted by international entities such as USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) and includes the translator’s certification statement.
7. Are my documents safe?
Yes. CAT maintains total confidentiality over all documents received.
No personal data or file is shared with third parties, except in cases of legal obligation.
8. What forms of payment are available?
We currently accept:
– PayPal;
– PIX;
– Bank transfer; and
– Credit Cards for clients in Brazil and abroad.
9. How can I receive my invoice?
At the moment, we do not issue electronic invoices (NFS-e).
After the company’s new tax structure is finalized, we will enable this service and inform all clients.
10. Can translation costs be declared in the Income Tax return?
In some cases, yes. Depending on the type of service and your tax profile, translation expenses may qualify as deductible.
We recommend consulting your accountant to verify whether this applies to your situation.
11. How can I speed up my quote request?
Send your document in PDF or a clear image, inform:
– the target language (e.g., Portuguese → English);
– the purpose (immigration, studies, business); and
– your desired deadline.
This helps us calculate price and delivery time with greater accuracy.
12. Does CAT provide translations for USCIS?
Yes. Our translations follow the exact standards required by USCIS, including the translator’s certification statement.
13. What languages does CAT translate?
Our primary focus is English ↔ Portuguese (Brazil).
We also offer translations from and into Spanish, supporting both individual and corporate clients.
14. Can I receive a refund for a translation service?
Refunds are only applicable in exceptional cases, such as:
– proven failure in execution, or;
– breach of previously agreed conditions.
Because translation is an intellectual and personalized service, refunds are not possible once the translated material has been delivered. All deadlines, formats, and objectives are aligned beforehand, ensuring clarity and safety prior to starting any project.
